We have been upgrading CROSS Library customers from Linux Mint to Lubuntu in 2025 and 2026. We are currently announcing upgrades for those who continue to see Linux Mint displaying ‘End of Support‘ notifications.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. For all system upgrades: an up-to-date CROSS Library Subscription.
2. Also, for any system not running Windows: A USB 3.0 (or higher) flashdrive of 64GB or larger
(Sandisk, PNY, Lexar brands recommended) is required.
THE FOLLOWING TWO UPGRADE PATHS ARE AVAILABLE DEPENDING ON YOUR SYSTEM:
1. If your system is running VirtualBox in Windows (where you click on an icon in your taskbar to open the system), we can download the latest upgrade to your system with an up-to-date CROSS Library Subscription. No other costs involved. (Note, if your system is performing slowly, we may be able to optimize it as we update. If not, we will advise you as per your best options.)
2. If you are using a laptop with Linux Mint running directly on it (no Windows), we can upgrade that with the following:
USB DRIVE (requirement #2 above): Note, if you have a USB flashdrive 3.0 or higher 64GB in size or larger, we can download our USB_RECOVERY system to it and use that to upgrade your existing laptop to the new system. Please note, we recommend Sandisk, PNY, or Lexar 64GB in size or larger.
Flashdrives may be purchased at Walmart, Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy and many other stores that sell computers and electronics. When you have purchased your flashdrive, call 1-877-615-7230 and press 2 to schedule a time for us to upgrade your system.
Note: Please do not purchase USB 2.0 flashdrives for this upgrade. We have tested USB 2.0 flashdrives for these upgrades, and they perform too slowly for this specific purpose. While USB 2.0 flashdrives MAY BE USEFUL for other things such as file storage, please do not waste your time with them for this upgrade! (USB 2.0 flashdrives perform too slowly to function well as a bootable flashdrive for this purpose. Please do not waste your money as well as both your time and ours.)
